The Baird Point

When it comes to my favourite place on campus, it would be none other than the iconic Baird Point which adorns Lake Lasalle on North campus. It’s the perfect place to hang out with some good friends, snap some good pictures or even attend the various performances and events that happen all year long. It’s a place that is far away from all the hustle and bustle of North campus, it’s platforms and pillars provide a quiet and scenic place to sit down have a cup of coffee and read, look around and overall have a great time.

Another thing that pulls me to this place would be its historical significance. The columns at Baird Point were originally from the former Federal Reserve Bank on Main and Swan Streets in downtown Buffalo. It was saved from demolishing in 1959 through the efforts of Cameron Baird and Major A. Burt Hamilton And then transported to Lasalle in 1978 on then-new north campus. It’s pretty interesting to see something that was once slated for destruction to become an iconic part of the university.

I’ve had many good memories at Baird point, which gives it a special place in my heart. From my freshman orientation to meeting my best friend there, this place will always be my number one place to be on campus.
