The evolution of the Scroll bar

It’s not common to see a cool web presentation about something trivial like a scrollbar that we see on computers. But that is exactly found today. The evolution of the Scroll bar (https://scrollbars.matoseb.com/) is a presentation of all the different iterations of the scroll bar since the first one in the Xerox Star in 1981 to Windows 10 recently. A scroll bar for those who aren’t well versed with tech jargon is a long thin section at the edge of a computer display by which content can be scrolled using a mouse.

The scroll bar was a very intuitive addition to computers, And it is pretty interesting to see something that we use every day and take for granted have a long history to it. Each scroll bar presented as interactive, you can use them just the way they were 20 years ago which is cool. Its pretty interesting to see how each of them progressed from retro looking agglomeration of pixels to a much more simple design. Each of the scroll bars has its own Wikipedia page linked to them showing the operating system that they first appeared on, giving more insight as to how it was used to the reader. The article also scrolls horizontally instead of the more traditional vertical scrolling which makes it more unique to read.

I feel that this presentation is very well designed and its a must-read for anyone who is into technology as it provides you the historical significance of something that you probably have taken for granted or cared about too much.
